I’m not a fan of what Guntherwerks does to the 993. The engineering, materials, performance, dynamics, etc. may be top notch, but they have managed to entirely ruin the platform’s light and airy good looks. The car appears way too swollen and bottom heavy now. Blegh.
I agree. I like some of their features like the exaggerated duck tail, but their work is a tad too much towards the Gemballa/RWB spectrum for me. I think the 993 GT2 is the sweet spot if you’re going for “aggressively styled but not comically so”
Congrats and enjoy it. How’s the rear leg room

Leg room is adequate. Head room is more the issue. I am 6’1” and wouldn't want to be back there for a long trip.

trunk space is awesome though and I think the headroom you give up on the sportback is from the trunk design.

i learned to drive stick on an absolutely beat to **** 2003 M3 that I got at auction for like $10,000 in 2009. I sent it back to auction after also learning how to do donuts and slide the car.

I learned on a brand new 2012 Golf R that I bought in Rising Blue. What a long couple of days with my father but done.

I think they should have led with the C40 recharge instead of the Polestar.

**** is like the size of a skateboard

^This right here is where Tesla needs to step up in the next phase of their evolution. This design makes Model S3XY look like second-grader sketchings of the essentially the same shape. Tesla just needs to get the willingness/design talent.manufacturing ability to design more than the most basic planes, lines and surfaces

I spec'd the XC40 Recharge I would get and it's approaching $60K. Steep price for such a small car. VW coming out with the ID.4 soon and Tesla 3 or Y at $40K still seems like a benchmark. What else is out there that looks good? The Ford Mach E seems compelling but not sold on the looks.

You do get the tax rebates on Volvo that don’t come with Tesla. Also, your car is put together competently with Volvo. Tesla has absolutely horrendous quality control and fit and finish. I’ve seen three now deconstructed for body work and it’s awful. Rust in 2-3 year old cars is unbelievable.

Tesla was the first one and has the charging network, but everyone else makes a better car than them in the EV space.

Mach E is compelling in the GT trim because it’s practically $52,000-55,000 after tax rebates.

Hadn't heard about the Tesla rust issues. I guess I could live without a few Volvo extras to get it into the 40s with rebate. I think we will end up waiting on a car to see if my wife goes back into the office after vaccines. I am WFH for the foreseeable future so we hardly use a car except to go to the grocery store or take/pickup the kids from daycare.

Oh come on. The Volvo BEVs are a joke. They are several gens behind Tesla and not credible entries. No one has had real success building BEVs on ICE platforms and neither will Volvo. Looks fine for a chunky small car with bad proportions (they can’t help the proportions in this class) but it’s hamstrung by its platform.

None of this is to discredit the criticism of Tesla right now. They have manufacturing issues galore and some design problems from being new to the car game but no one will beat them by converting old ICE platforms. $50k for a 4800 lb pig with sub 200 mile range and less than 15 cubic feet of cargo space? That’s a huge failure.

Lets see what Volvo can do in 5 years, right now the Model Y clownstomps these toys. I still wouldn’t get a Y until they can prove they can screw it together well and build out a parts and service network to scale, but at least it’s not DOA like most of these other BEVs.
Mach 1 is at least in the game. I don’t love it, but give them credit for addressing the market in a legitimate fashion. Lets see how the ID4 does as well.
