I have a Chubb policy (that's what she said) through work.

It isn't too expensive but I should re-evaluate whether or not I actually need it. I originally signed up because it covered liability on car rentals (without a minimum coverage requirement since I didn't own a car), but now that I have auto insurance, I am OK there.

It also covers watercraft, which might be nice? I don't really know what potential situation I could get in if I was racing a borrowed sailboat and I hit someone else and caused significant damage or injury. I would think that the owner's insurance applied (because I am not a paid rental/charter), but nice to know that I am covered either way.

And of course all of the general umbrella issues...personal liability, legal defense, etc. I don't think it really lets me save much on the primary insurance because the required minimums are relatively high, but that might not be true for everyone, especially homeowners.

I was thinking about umbrella purely for downside protection and it’s reasonable cheap, don’t care if it’s out the money in most cases

This may just be the musings of a mind currently pickled in pisco sours, but I think The Umbrella Corporation would be a great name for a new insurance company

Definitely get it! It's cheap protection. Everyone in our law office has one just because of the various issues that we see come up in cases. It is worth it for peace of mind!

*Farmers* bro.

State Farm is much more selective (almost correctional-officer-school level). You really think you have what it takes?

If you're looking to go out and make some poor decisions that end up with you getting bent over your desk, Farmers is a sure thing.

Hey, I had to laugh though. They once tagged me for over $300 in parking tickets in a single week when I parked in a 4 hour parking zone for a few days without realizing it. It was a street perpendicular to mine, and the sign with the "4 hour parking without resident tags" had been spray painted over..:lol:
