How good is USAA really?

Like is it worth getting my 90-something year old grandfather signed up (assuming he hasn't previously used USAA), so that my mother can sign up, so that I can sign up?

Sounds like they also have to sign up for some sort of real plan too...can't just open a savings account. I've considered this in the past but it seems like a lot of effort...

It used to be great. It has been **** enough that i left after I was t-boned and they were absolutely **** with coverage and handling of the matter.

Insurance premiums went up so much annually that it was one of the most expensive insurers in my area.

I’m about $1k for 6 month, spotless driving record (because i never really drive since I got first license..., no car in college or grad school, then NYC/London doesn’t require car, until first born that is), garage parked (though not at home address so not sure if it’s net plus or minus), it’s GEICO

We benchmarked customer service practices with USAA maybe 10 years ago. They had the most intensely loyal customer base out there...unheard of metrics for a bank, really.

But you’re not the first person I’ve heard that says they’ve gone to **** recently.

they were the cheapest by quite a bit when we looked and we assumed great customer support. We got the rate at least.

They grew too fast and were overwhelmed on both the customer service and compliance sides.

I knew about the consent order. Not a good look when the bank for service members gets caught with SCRA/MLA violations

I have been a USAA member my entire life, and they have always been great. The best for me is that they have always gotten me to the right person from the phone tree, and if they need to transfer you for another matter, they make that easy. I never had a problem with a claim, and the rates were really good (when we bought our first house the title company thought there was a mistake on the premium because it was too low), but over the last 4 years it has been going down hill. I recently got a quote from Progressive and State Farm and both were much better. I'm thinking about making the switch.

Here is a GQ article about the boom in Cannonball runs. I haven't finished the article but this picture in the middle is confusing as hell. This guy drove a Mustang GT but this looks like a Z4 with a gas door in the middle of the drivers door...

This is my favorite cannonball car, an Audi S6 disguised to look like a Ford Interceptor. Broke the record during COVID lockdown.

I guess the whole backside is all gas tank? How the heck do you refuel only once?

I mean...it says in the article. He ripped apart the rented mustang and installed an extra 111 gallons of tank to the trunk and passenger seat areas (in addition to the stock 16g tank).

Then instead of playing games like "try to park in between two pumps so you can fill two tanks at once" he just had buddies meet him in the middle with a pickup truck loaded with huge tanks and multiple high-flow hoses.
