The mouth grill has always been there: it's just been covered up on by a skinny bumper on the classic Zs. I think the car looks great: restrained and understated unlike all the cars with flying doodads and faux aero crap on them today.

From straight on:

I think this looks terrible. The main issue is not the size/shape of the grille alone—though I bet you it is far larger than it needs to be and is hence as faux as any of the other ornamental vents, openings, doohickeys, etc. that you’re thinking of. In fact, if you look closely, you’ll see that the bottom half is just solid black plastic.

To me, the real problems are more fundamental. First of all, the car is very stubby and slab-sided. It has none of the sleekness of the original. It’s a chunky, blobby form—made worse by the blacked-out canopy, which obscures the car’s overall silhouette and highlights the bottom as a separate mass.

Second, the mish-mash of discordant shapes that don’t relate to surface shapes and curvature. It looks like a car wearing make-up to look like another car.

Third, all the ornamental surface cuts and creases. This is anything but a “clean” design. There is jewelry everywhere.

In truth, the Z hasn’t mattered since the mid 90’s. The Z before it sucked. The Z before that sucked, too. The Z before that one, the original, was cool.

Not exactly a proud lineage.

Just went and looked at the Subaru site, and yeah, you can't get a turbo in the Forrester.

Nissan hasn’t been relevant for a long time, I’d rather you fight over the NSX

Not sure if it is yet. But If the Z's grille is at least FUNCTIONAL. then that's it.. They've already succeeded where Honda and Yota both failed (especially at something so simple)

A dude in the NikeTalk car thread posted this refresh that he created

That does look better, but I think it needs door handles to really give it the throw back look.
And it had better get the GTR engine with a 6-speed.

Edit: Yeah, slightly recessed and revised handles that speak S30. in brushed stainless. with the thumb push clicky.
