The Golf Alltrack is mighty nice and lots of incentive to get them off the shelves.

That's because they are done as of MY2019, right?

That's on the shortlist for my fiance with our planned 2-3 year move to Montana. We'd likely need a second car for the duration and while I would definitely keep the GTI, it would be nice to have something with AWD, a little more clearance, and more space. I like them better than the Subaru offerings and I'm optimistic that there'll be a good used market for them next summer/fall.

Plus there's something to be said for sharing a bunch of parts and maintenance procedures with the GTI--(and I've checked, there IS a vw dealer near where we're looking...that could actually have been a big problem out there).

1. He likes sports/GT cars with big motors
2. He lives in NYC so a "regular" A/T is preferable to a dual clutch car
3. It has to be a convertible
3. Has to have decent storage space for tennis ****
4. It's his go to car during the nicer months and his designated road trip car

this is like my ideal demo at this point.

I'm not particularly well up to date with the car game, but coming to mind are the MBs that were mentioned, plus M3/M4 if they come in the right trims, and the Mustang mentioned earlier.

there's also the ultimate silver fox retiring comfy vehicle - the SL550.

You got it! There's a new MY2019 Alltrack in white at $34k CAD which is typically $37-38ish, in manual trans as well.

The 1.8T is gutless though but good on gas.

I think it’s a good sign that the American car industry is producing competitive, well thought-out vehicles meant at beating everyone at a specific purpose. Like the Shelbies, the Corvette, the F150 and now this Bronco. After a very very long period of half-assing almost everything they brought to market and relying on brand loyalty to sell their crap.

yeah, i can see this, though also worth noting the big car and SUV explosion that is now like, what, 16 new MB models?

my father in law has a Fusion Platinum with 70K and he inquired how basic and high mile he'd have to go for a used F150 as a 1:1 trade. Very very base and very high miles it turns out.

a ridiculous hp Bronco kind defeat the purpose though, no better for off road, and on road is still probably not as good as "performance SUV" whatever that means
Jeep is making the Wrangler with the 392 6.4L. It’s not about “purpose” it’s about an open door and roofless SUV with a great exhaust note and unusable. It’s dumb and wonderful.

It’s completely impractical and I want it. It’s the same as Range Rover and Range Rover Sports. Made for off-road. Never used off-road. Except Ford can’t be worse in reliability

Manual FJ > 2-door Wrangler > new Bronco imo.

Anytime I’m on my Longboard and I see a driveway with two Range Rovers I can’t help but chuckle. They understand the inevitable will happen and be stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow.

New Bronco is very exciting, the little Sport version I am as enthusiastic about as the new LR Defender, it just looks incomplete to me. However the images shared today are inspiring, even though the interior is overloaded with tech that will eventually become obsolete and problematic.

If I had one today and money wasn’t an issue, I’d do it up like this and turn it into a street legal trophy truck

Cheap way to get in! C4S Aerokit oooof in a slushbox or a 997 C2S in PDK.

Don't really like the aerokit on it, it looks sort of silly, but that is purely subjective. Key thing is find out if it's IMS system has been upgraded/changed out to something from LN Engineering. If not set a side money for that, otherwise when the IMS goes...you have a large German paperweight (I know a few guys who have had IMS go and grenade the engine). Also the rear main seals seem to leak on those all the time. Other than that, its mostly whether people like the looks enough and the interior. I believe these have the "Soft touch" interior buttons and plastic surfaces that get all sticky and need to be sent out and fixed. There are places that repair the sticky surfaces and buttons, but not sure what they charge.
