Found a MotorWeek "Retro Review" that describes the 83 MK1 Rabbit GTI's "exhilarating 0-60 time of 9.7 sec". In those days anything under 10 felt quick. I'm sure the Neuspeed short shift kit I installed gave me at least an extra .01-.02 sec.

Yes, under 10 was pretty good in the early 80s. To put things in perspective, there was no 1983 Corvette, but a 1982 Corvette was in the 8 second range to get to 60, and a normally aspirated 944 took 8.3. IIRC, the only 2 offerings in the US that could reach 60 in under 6 seconds were the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and the Turbo Lotus Esprit. It wasn't until about 85 and 86 that the US started to see more cars that could hit 60 in 6 seconds or less Testarossa,328. Countach, Jalpa, 911 Turbo, 911 Carrera, the C4 Vette etc, and MB's 560s.

So, I decided to get a dog, meaning the F-type is out of the picture. I’ll likely keeping my car through the summer, unless a private buyer feels like paying my asking price or a crazy deal pops up.

I’m torn between getting a turn key car that is fun yet practical like a Macan GTS (never drove one, just all the reviews I’ve read and my mom got one recently), used 911 (fairly reliable, but slower than my car), older E63(AWD but outdated interior), M3/M4 (adjustable suspension) , RS3 or TTRS (that 5 cyclinder is magic), M550 (maybe too numb for me) or a car I can have fun modifying with a deep aftermarket like a Mustang.

I really wish the GT350 wasn’t manual only. I don’t want to deal with a daily manual in traffic.

I may be getting bored with my car because there’s a limited tuning market. Also, if I blow my motor it’s $25k+ versus a Mustang being $5k-8k. Exhaust note is a big thing for me and the Mustang with the valve control is pretty impressive.

I’m sure there’s other great cars under $50k.

Need to and want to are very different. I have a compulsions to constantly want to upgrade or improve things.

I do it with my audiophile equipment, my clothes, my home theater system, etc.

It’s not practical, but I can afford it and it’s enjoyable. I think it’s amplified with the pandemic because I’m bored and I can do research online and watch YouTube videos while working all day.

Thinking of dumping my Douchemobile for a fast full-size sedan. First choice would be a Panamera Turbo, but don't want to pay that much. Probably not another AMG either. Thoughts?

Fast sedans:
-S8
-S7
-RS5
-XJR
-M760
-M550

The top 3 for sport sedans are probably: M5, E63S or AMG GT63, and Panamera Turbo.

M550 and M760 are more luxurious rides, but fast.

Audis are fast, but not very engaging. Great interiors and infotainment.

The M2 has a limited tuning market? There are lots of options...what upgrades are you looking for?
But I want my car to run
Not to mention your car already has turbos

The M2 has a limited tuning market, the M2 competition doesn’t. The N55 is already topped out without adding fueling systems, methanol, aftermarket turbo replacements, crank hub upgrade, etc. I don’t want to void the BMW warranty. If it had something simple like a Carbahn or Dinan tune that made an appreciable difference like the S55 then I’d probably go that route.

My car is also miserable for passengers. That’s another reason to change cars. The roads here are too rough.

I was joking about the jdm route. He picks legit project cars. I don’t have a garage to work out of, so I’m really looking to pay someone to modify American muscle for me or get an aftermarket tune that’ll match the factory warranty. I’m too risk averse to just wing it with a German performance engine grenading from a tune.
