I didn’t realize there was a 2002 Alpina until I looked it up. But there is, and they’re pretty rare. All of them look like they have those stripes in the M Motorsport colors, though.

Saw a Taycan in the "flesh" for the first time yesterday going South on 101. Great looking car from behind, front is a bit less successful in my opinion.

I've seen one on the road going in the opposite direction. From a front 3/4 view I liked it a lot more than the Panamera. Still, I don't love it and certainly not at the kind of money it costs.

And he also have a few motorcycle waiting to be restored well, I always told him you got too much space... (cost wise not that expensive, at least not until you start restoring them all...)

Speaking of less successful, I spotted my fourth Lamborghini Urus the other day pulling into a bank parking lot. I don't think Lamborghini has ever made such a boring and unassuming car before, as not one person even noticed it. I think it might be a prerequisite to get some loud ridiculous color like lime green or purple, just so you don't get constantly mistaken for a Kia...ouch.

Peak Porsche II

Particulate filters / muffled sound, heavier chassis, bigger dimensions, likely only incremental horsepower gains . . . probably not. For me, at least.

Also, not that it is necessarily a material concern, but the 992 is the first 911 to be styled to fall in-line with the corporate Porsche look, rather than define what that look should be.

Contrary to common belief, 911s have generally been getting lighter every generation. The only exceptions since the 80’s have been the 964 and 992 (due to building-in reinforcement for future hybridization).

Changing consumer tastes, trends toward electrification and automation, tightening emissions and efficiency regulations, etc., mean that we have likely already seen “peak” versions of many enthusiast cars.

That only seems preposterous to those of us who look forward to a more electrified, automated, and benign driving experience. For the traditional enthusiast (i.e. Car Guys), nothing I’m saying is new or controversial.

Welcome back Foo! Excited to see what you have done with the GT3 and how your experience has been.

Forgot what I last reported.

Have hit the 6,000-mile mark. Not bad for a year. No mechanical or QC issues. Had a failed weld in the Akrapovic exhaust tip, which was replaced under warranty.

Car is loud. But a good loud. Sounds like an RSR going around the track. Lots of thumbs up from random folks. Even cops. A police cruiser pulled up to me at an intersection in downtown Manhattan—the officer rolled down his window and asked me to rev the engine for him. Kids love the car.

Got a bigger carbon fiber wing and Cup front lip from Manthey for Christmas. Having them installed later this week.

PPF holding up great, except a small nick on the hood. Fortunately, did not get through to the paint. Getting the hood re-PPFed (along with the new wing).

I don't see why electrical can't be fun fundamentally just need someone to do it right in the future...

I’m sure the Taycan is fun. But without an ICE engine and manual transmission, it is a different species of fun at best.

A friend of mine with a nice "Porsche-centric" collection (Two 3.2 Carreras, a 944 Turbo, a 987 Cayman S, a 981 Boxster Spyder, a Macan Turbo, and a Ferrari 308GTS) recently drove a Taycan and he said he was thoroughly impressed and thought it was tremendous fun. He said its a different experience than ICE Porsches, but that he would gladly own one in the future.

Starting to really look for a replacement to my M2. Every passenger complains about the stiffness and I had my fun for 18 months and am bored with it.

I’m likely going to buy/finance instead of lease, because I’ll get too bored before 36 months. Probably going to go AWD, but not married to it.

I’m all over the place with my test drives that are scheduled: E63s(little too big, but that exhaust and ride quality are nice), F-type R (exhaust and looks, pretty comfortable gt car), whatever 911 AWD I can get below $90k that is CPO’d (because Porsche).

outside possibilities: GT500 (can get an allocation) or new C8. Though fitting snows on these will be tough and incredibly impractical.

I recently changed jobs and now meet with a lot of clients at their homes in Westchester and Fairfield. I’d prefer a little more compliant ride than my M2.

I’m sure I’m missing some obvious cars: budget is $90k-ish, need to be able to fit snows on it, will likely get it wrapped, don’t want a boat (unless it’s an E63).

Holy crap re: that 2002. It's a beauty but it'd better be a labor of love because I don't see anyone paying $100K+ for that. It makes me wonder what I could get for my 1975 on BAT.

Base 911 would be a great choice. Note that the rear engine format of the car means it works pretty well in inclement weather when you put on snow tires. Don’t really need four-wheel drive. I wouldn’t drive it through a blizzard or anything, and I wouldn’t drive it over salt, but that has more to do with taking good care of the car. You’ll be just as fine in heavy rain or light snow as a front-wheel drive car on snow tires would be.

Will ride a hell of a lot better than your M2 too.
