I suspect it is Porsche that they are going after, since Porsche has the rep of being the livable sports car.

Interesting point here, watching a few startups go big when I was younger was always interesting as everyone would get ferraris but in less than 2 years would have a 911 or AMG car. Always wondered where those ferraris went

And it's a smart move. I loved (still love, actually) the 360, but I've always stuck with Porsche (with a few side-trips to BMW) because of Ferrari's reputation on maintenance. This is the sort of thing that would tempt me, if it applied to a Ferrari model I like while in the market. Even so, top contender to replace my Boxster S when I tire of it is the Audi R8, a sort of compromise between Italian flair and German reliability.

Don't kid yourself - the R8 is about as Italian as Dominos Pizza.

Just threw down a deposit on a Tesla Model X. Ask me in spring 2015 how I like it. We are looking at cars right now and could end up in anything from a Mazda CX-5 to a MB wagon in the near term and will likely want an additional car in about a year so figured it would be good to hold our place in line for a Model X.

I think I'd be okay with that though. I think an R8 will be my next sports car as well, sort of a Boxster with more of everything is my hope.

Probably 8... this is a couple years away at this point, no real point in having one in NYC with two kids. A minivan is most likely the next vehicle purchase.

The V8 R8 is about as fast as an M3. Still finely balanced, gorgeous as heck, and more than respectable performance...but if you're looking for an entry ticket into exotic performance, you'll be disappointed

Oh I don't care at all about 0-60 past a certain point. It just isn't that interesting to me. I'd rather have something that is super-agile. Frankly, I'd probably be okay with a boosted BRZ...

I'd get one just to enjoy it for what it is, inside and out (I'd also go for the 8-cylinder, btw). Truth is, for all out performance I'm happier with motorcycles, like my CBR600RR; fast enough that I haven't started lusting for a liter-bike or somesuch.

I was just thinking about how I kinda want a blue BRZ. They're such great looking cars and I kind of miss manually shifting.
