1. I'd like to announce that animated avatars are now available again. You'll have to reload, but they are once more possible.

We've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes. The site load speed was already under 1/2 of what Huddler's was, on average, and we installed cloudflare, which means that the site should be even faster. A ton more will go on in the weeks and months to come, and some things will be more visibile, and some less.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

I'm really intrigued at the thought of owning an early 90's NSX as a weekend car down the road...

A more budget friendly option would be the S2000.

New i8 is likely a huge miss. 22 miles in 'lectric only mode and 40 mpg otherwise for $140k? I don't know why anyone would buy it over an R8 other than the few people who want it because it's new and unusual. From a performance standpoint, it's about as fast as a Tesla Model S - but with the vaunted BMW unreliability going for it and without the 200+ mile range. I saw one in camo on the street about a month ago and it was indeed low and wide so it's got that going for it and I'm sure it handles well, but I think they missed the boat on powertrain. No one is driving this thing 15k miles a year and if you really want green cred you drive a Tesla roadster already.

Throw in the 400 hp turbo i6 from the new m3 (sorry, m4 - another smooth move by BMW) and you'd have a legit R8 competitor.

A hollow victory. The P1 and LaFerrari will eat that record for lunch.

In comparison, the 918 is underpowered and overweight.

The P1 has recorded a time on the Ring, and it's 4 seconds slower. The Porsche looks like it has more to give --- that was a very smooth drive. The bumpiness of the Ring may also restrict times on the P1 and LaF.

Anyway, whomever has the fastest time, a sub-7 minute time on the Ring for a street car is just insane.

A lot of people will buy a car solely on looks. People with money. The i8 looks like nothing else on the road today; especially in the two-tone livery.

I think it's largely pointless to compare bleeding edge tech with cars in more standard gear. The 918, the Fisker, the i8 are about a journey towards something else... Just stepping stones. Doesn't make them right/wrong better/worse.

If I want to compare a McClaren and, what... A GT3? OK... but cars like the 918 are a technical exercise.

It's a new car of its kind, and very striking, at that.

People won't buy it for the range or gas savings, necessarily. People will buy it because they can and because they want to be seen in one.

No doubt it'll capture the gaze of EVERYONE it drives by.

It also has a damn nice exhaust note for a 3-banger.

Personally, I think that the auto industry reached its high water mark with the Ferrari 458. It's all downhill from now

It's not common as most bikes people see are cruisers with that rumbly lumpy idle, but there are some. The exhaust on my CBR's I4 is very reminiscent of a BMW S54 I6 engine, for instance. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I like a parallel-twin near redline as well. Nowhere near as many tuneful bikes as their are cars, though.
