1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

They do, actually. I've attended that huge festival they do in Brighton a couple of times. It's quite overwhelming

A nice one is like 80k$, nuts.

Most of the nice ones that come up for sale around here, get sold and shipped to Japan, the same goes for Karmann Ghia's.

Prices on the Split Window have really jumped! We initially purchased this for $5000, but now that we've restored it, we could probably sell is for around $30,000 (it's a pretty good restoration, but not one of the $50,000 to $80,000 jobs)...

However, the increased prices leave us at a loss for purchasing another!

My dad had a couple of those back in the 70s

had to get a Haynes manual and rebuild the engine in a tiny ski town in colorado to get home after the winter one year.

There's a guy a street over from where I live that has one. It's totally decrepit but it seems to run strong and he drives it everywhere. You'd think it would be a perfect car to try and buy off him cheaply and restore....but there's a good chance the thing has so much sentimental value that he won't sell at any price.

He always revs his engine at me whenever I encounter him at stop lights to mockingly challenge me to a race

That's a different model, the split window one is a T1, that is a T2.

Fyi, they are on T5,5 now.

That was the problem with my dad's bus...after he rebuilt the engine (assuming it was kind of a hack job, trying to make do with basic hand tools in a ski bum town), it wasn't really good to go very fast...I think he was trying to hold it under 55.

Then he slept and let the girl drive...woke up and she was doing way over. They ended having to abandon the bus in a farmer's field in Iowa or something and hitch hike the rest of the way to Minneapolis (along with 2 cats).

IIRC, the end to that story is that he had another buddy with a bus with a good engine that had been crashed or had body issues and they ended up retrieving the bus body somehow (and baking the farmer a pie for letting him leave the bus there).

I am sure everyone caught the David Brown DB5-knockoff announcements:

Basically it seems to be a reskinned XKR. Price to be announced, but probably a lot more than it should be.

That is a very random story! Most of my dad's stories involved hustling college kids in basketball while in high school and buying pot with the winnings.

What did you not like about the Q5? Wifey is in love with its bastard brother the Macan, so I'm curious about potential issues
