Yeah, the Z8 has almost never dipped below current market prices as well. Would be a good buy for a collection. I went to school with all the Wal-Mart family kids and they bought new cars constantly, I remember one of them pulling up next to me in the Alpina version of the Z8 (this was back when it was a new car) and getting my mind blown. They had the usual supercars and stuff but that Alpina really made an impression on me, especially since it was in the middle of America.

All air-cooled 911's are worth good money, can't even pick up a mediocre air-cooled 911 for less than $20K anymore, 964 or 930. 993's are slightly inflated on the US market, by maybe 20%-30% I feel. There's 993TT's that sit on ebay at $80K every day of the year. I'm whittling down my car list still and the 993 keeps popping up because of it's insane value. I could pick up a 993TT for about the same or less as it'd cost in the US, a rare occurrence. It's pretty tempting because I know that if I ever wanted to unload it later, the market would be solid. Those 993 C4S are worth a ton too, almost turbo prices.

What's a '92 500E Merc with 150,000 mi worth? Probably less on the market than worth to me, just asking. It's the 1st 4 door Porsche.

you can probably pick up one for $15k or so...10-15 years ago I woulda been loving life with a 500E, F355 and 993TT in my dream garage.

also lusted over the Jag XJR, Viper GTS and MR2 Turbo (that last one I actually was able to own) in those days...

I was going to include tubi in my post too

Alpina z8s are garbage, the prior ones are the ones to collect and have always loved that car. Fuck, one of the best cars bmw has ever come out with.

    cool story bro -

was sitting at a red light on A1A in Boca late last night, pulled up opposite a white car with a huge wing but not really paying attention. my wife said from the passenger seat, hey what car is that, I've never seen it before. light turns green and the car with the ricey wing takes off with a sound that makes my teeth hurt

it was an LF-A. first time I've seen it on the road.

Awesome, the exhaust note on that thing is orgasmic...... the best sounding V10 available today....

Edit, the wing is functional man; so its not like something from the APC catalog.

I know a guy who has a BMW Z8 and a Alpina version (along with a Porsche CGT, Enzo, SLR, SLS, 55 gullwing and 55 vert, among 30 others, at least 10 Ferrari, 288 GTO, F40, Testarossa...MB AG borrowed the gullwing for it's display at some concorses

he bought an old school (circa 1920) and gutted it, installed an elevator and drive in doors to store them), he's 55, never worked a day in his life, has a MA in architecture from Harvard

    he has 2 pristine 928's, an early S and a 94 GTS, a bunch of 911's, GT2's and 3's
had a custom built 911 made for his daughter, went to the factory as it was completed, 16th b-day
gets invited to all the Ferrari factory stuff, been with them in the pits at monaco
when I bought my e46 M3 the salesman told me he sold 2 cars that day to a guy from the same town, a Ferrari 512(?) and a 2000 SL600(?) cutom built and previously owned by Heinz Ward

stopped by my house one day and aked me if I wanted to see some cars, lol. he was in the Alpina

the Alpina is nice, less frantic than the Z8, but has more torque down lower, for a DD is a fast effortless car to trundle around in
I'd still take the BMW version, less tricked out, wheels, interior, etc., they are beautiful cars

I recall seeing pics you posted a few years back, and it's a beauty. Keeping it sounds like a good decision to me.

The worst part about that thread is that those guys are all suggesting these horrible cars (Crown Vic wagon?) while in reality, a ton of great wagons are just a parts bin away for the manufacturers, and still they don't make them... (yes, E9x M3 very much included) Audi seems get it, they maximize their parts bin really well, MB/AMG does too - they basically make two or three form factors for each segment and then make as many permutations as they can with their salad bar of parts. BMW does not, really - and the old 'not everything should be an M' mantra no longer has any weight, considering what they've made recently. I say they get with the times and just make an 'M' version of all of the obvious ones now - they aren't making an MZ4 when they could, an M7, an M3 and M5 touring...

6 series Gran Coupe Touring (Gran Touring? .... GT? 6 series GT?) - pretty easily done, would probably look pretty awesome since BMW wagon rear ends look pretty good with an aggressive Hofmeister kink and the 2-tier back end, would sell enough units to make it worth it, even if they just made it in a diesel for Europe plus a 650i version. It'd look better than that CLS wagon for sure.

There's a market in some places for ultra-wagons, Japan and Europe for sure. Sometimes I see wagon versions that I didn't even know existed - seen a few Evo 9 MR wagons and they surprise me each time, and the C63 wagon is a little rare too.
