    Corvettes and Vipers do this too. Some say it's for getting the best 0-60 times, but they have torquey engines. I'm not sure what the Nissan's excuse is.

    Oh it definitely had CVT. But I was in the manual mode and had it stay in 1st gear the entire time. Thing was not torquey at ALL. Engine sounded good though around 5-7K RPM on the highway :)

    With all the talk of British Racing Green, I just thought I'd post this here. Not sure if it's exactly BRG or not, and I'm sure many have seen it, but it's simply impossible to see this car too many times. Essence of automotive beauty.

    How does a CVT work in manual mode, I can't wrap my head around that. Simulated shifts?

    I think the best way to run a CVT is to keep the gas engine at either its most efficient RPM or its most powerful. Apparently VW tried this years ago, but people complained that the engine sounds the same all the time, so they simulated a normal gearbox with it, obviating the advantages of a CVT. :facepalm:

    Yeah, I hear manufacturers (Nissan included) put in simulated shift points so it feels more "normal," but why do they have manual mode in a CVT? It doesn't really have any 'gears' to manually shift.

    In fact, the way that GreenFrog used it by keeping it in 1st the entire time sounds like is the most efficient way to drive it, and the way CVT's were designed to be used, or am I mistaken?

    allow the engine to rev up instead of the gears to ramp down
    as the engine approaches redline (say 6000 rpm) 'shift', skip or jump the ratios, up to a point that drops the revs 25% or so down to 4000
    make each jump different to simulate a 6 speed manuals ratios

    The car has simulated shifts. I'm not quite sure what the mechanics of a CVT transmission are, but even when driving normally you can feel the car 'shifting.'

    As for when I was in manual mode, I had purposely left it in 'first' gear and it was revving to 6-8K RPM. No simulated shifts during that period.

    yes, my cut-out is 8000 tach goes to 9000
    car is limited to 155 speedo goes to 200, and the car can only do 180 or so unrestricted

    the manual also states that even in manual it will downshift automatically at extended high engine speeds

    In the manual shift mode, the transmission
    may shift up automatically to a
    higher range than selected if the engine
    speed is too high. When the vehicle
    speed decreases, the transmission
    automatically shifts down and
    shifts to 1st gear before the vehicle
    comes to a stop.

    I saw an Aston today that I couldn't recognize. I pulled into a parking spot two away hoping to get to talk to the surgeon who was hopping into it to drive into the pouring rain. The nose/tail was like a DB9 but the nose was so aggressive, it didn't look like anything I recognized (bodykit? who puts a bodykit on an Aston?). Def looked like the long wheelbase model -- so not a Vantage base. Really no idea. It was LOUD, too. Wasn't a 1-77 either. Next time I head out there, I hope I'll see it in the garage again. I saw no badges other than the Aston badge.

    Funny, it really looked (in my memory of about 3 hours old) like a Project 310. But that's not possible.

    what I don't understand is why you would criminally try to destroy rented property?
    doesn't make sense
    no different than taking a sledge hammer to it, especially with ecu recordings
