I drive this BMW E46 325i sedan. In my opinion, this series is when BMW peaked design-wise. It's also a great joy to drive.

Be sure to do a thorough test drive if you’re thinking about the Mazda. FIL leased one and I find the drivers seat and front passenger seat incredibly uncomfortableHave a $7000 award for going electric. Pretty much set on RAV4 Hybrid--trying to secure a 2025 in transit model MIJ. Car shopping is so stressful, calling around at dealerships etc. Online shopping thanks to Styleforum has helped a bit.
The alternative would be Mazda CX-50 hybrid. Nicer trim overall, sort of like the aggressiveness more on the Toyota. Also, a tad out of my price range. The trade-in is a '94 van so happy to upgrade regardless.
