I've never installed an aftermarket exhaust system on any of my cars.

if it's at 1800 rpm you kind don't have a choice, that's like highway efficient cruise by default rpm

That's what I am thinking. I mean, it's futile to play music when driving or even try to have a conversation lol.. Think its back to the muffler shop I go, and I'll let some 25 year old score a sweet deal on some Magnaflows on Facebook Marketplace

Every aftermarket exhaust I’ve head has a drone at a certain RPM. Even the BMW m-performance exhausts (non-stock) drone, which is why I kept the original one.

For some reason the drone appears to usually be at cruising speed, which I don’t get. These aftermarket manufacturers should be able to tune an exhaust to at least resonate at a different tone at cruising RPMs. You can get resonator tips for some exhausts, which are supposed to slightly change the frequency of the sound wave and avoid the drone. No idea if they work to any appreciable degree.

Anyone else regret installing exhaust systems (mine is a Magnaflow cat-back) upon discovering how painfully horrible they can drone at certain RPM? Seriously considering swapping back to the OEM as legit needs noise cancelling earplugs when driving on the highway and at around 1,800 RPM

I knew a guy with an older Ferrari who was searching for a stock exhaust to put on, because the Tubi a previous owner had put on the car was so loud it would give him a headache on longer drives.

I'm thankful that my Cayman has PSE, so I can press a button and reduce exhaust sound on longer drives and listen to music.

like MPPSK, think mine was last year still available before full particular filter implementation, though never even thought about…

I've actually sold like old sofas, beds, etc. over the years and tracked down a vintage motorcycle myself, so yeah, it is usually the place I look first since it is targeted to local area (i.e. a vintage DT250 located in ID doesn't really do me much good)

See that's exactly it. Quiet as OEM most in-town driving, but cruising speed feels like dental drills drilling into one's cranium and ear canals.. I agree, you'd think if there was one code they'd spend all their R&D money on cracking, it'd be drone, since it is the number one complaint about the Magnaflow (and I assume other) exhaust systems, but here we are. I've seen people go so far as to install sound deadening insulation to floor boards and trunk, but that's not for me. I'll just go back to the OEM.
