Even with the horrid trunk?
I think "true motorsport" is a cop-out phrase that's meaningless. If people want to compare engines, at least talk about tangible things instead of fluffy concepts like "true motorsport."
The M10, an engine from their regular production line, has more motorsport cred than any other engine they've produced --- it won an F1 championship, and the S14, heart of the most successful touring race car ever, is based on the M10. The S70/2 is probably the only other street engine they make that can come close to it in terms of motorsport cred, and mainly because it won Le Mans overall twice in two different forms.
Dinan-built S62s have done really well in Grand Am. I don't know which engine Dinan uses these days.
in reality there was only 1 non-M motor
the US e36 M3, and even it was made by M (or Motorsport) GmbH (not BMW) as stated on the serial number plate
this was basically a hopped up std 3 series I6
euro got a 6 throttle body, high compression, high rev'ing (7800 rpm) motor
The 1 M Coupe also has a regular engine, but is considered an //M car.
do new M cars say mfgd by M or BMW?
my Audi is nameplated by quattro GmbH, not Audi
Yeah, the Bangle Butt's not great, but it is the least annoying on the 6-series. I do love GTs of most any stripe though.
Question I've been wondering about for a long time: DEE-nan or DIE-nan ?
I believe it's the latter.
Actually yes, the trunk lines never bothered me, especially with the convertible version.
Personally, fewer cars have ever had a nicer ass than my current car:
Audi fucked up up with the 2011 version
my 2011 says Bayerische Motoren Werke AG
E39 M5's S62 is also a motorsport engine...
ITBs for the win
thats a bullshit M...
that engine is from the z4 3.5is and 335is
IF i got 300gs...
with straight pipe exhaust that shoots FIRE every time i shift
the bentley is for old people, the lambo on the OTHER HAND... is for people who arent on the viagra regimen
wonder when that changed
my 2001 M GmbH
my 1995 and 1989 were Motorsport GmbH iirc
still not getting definition of "true motorsport engine"...the S65, for example, also has ITB's and swept all the ALMS GT championships last year. why is it not a true motorsport engine?
Separate names with a comma.
