A small respite from priapic-driven car talk ...

A colleague is picking up a Volt in a few days. His wife has a pretty long commute, and got used to the carpool lane access stickers on their Prius (which is still going strong on 230k miles with standard maintenance), so they were considering the Volt and the plug-in Prius, both of which are AT PZEV vehicles and so qualify for the new California green carpool lane stickers. They have two small kids.

He said that the Volt is a really nice car in general, and the uncertainty of the availability of the Prius pushed them towards the Volt. I'm looking forward to seeing the Volt up close.

It's too big. Way too big. I say this as someone who's had a 5-series before.
My neighbor got a new M5 recently but has a collection of RR's and Bentley sedans from the 80's and 90's (when they were the same car with different engines and grilles) and rotates out the cars because it appears he has 2 parking spaces but more than 5 or 6 cars (I've seen a Testarossa, a Corniche II, a 190E Cosworth, and this M5 in the same spot) - the M5 has been there for a couple weeks with his RR and it is as big as, and even with the down suspension, is as tall as the RR.

I notice someone comparing the S8 to the M5. I thought the S8 would compete with MB Sxx AMG'S?

^ Yeah the M5 in the same range as S6 and E63, the S8 is more 750/760 and S amg.

True, but I was just listing my preferences. I like the S8 because it's short wheelbase, and should have a phenomenal engine. I've had a long wheelbase S-class and it's a bit too big for me.

Doesn't the US get the S63 swb?

I just remembered that the F10/11, is actually build on the same platform as the swb 7 series (F01), so it's a big car.

It's strange, I usually am a fan of that blue, but I find it too childish for the E39 M5 and more at home on something like an Evo, STi, or R/S4.

    Still a great car.

RS4 is childish now? Didn't know high school kids/college kids could afford one (even preowned they are like $45k+++)
