Its almost as bad as the Ferrari SUV renderings floating around out there.

Whats next, a convertible SUV? Wait...

Yeah I saw that on TG, convertible 4x4's aren't a new thing, there was the Willy's, Suzuki Samurai, Wrangler, LR Series 2 etc.

I sort of like it, I don't know why, but it looks kind of bad ass.

Kuki did you see the Bentley part and I'm pretty sure, that's not a 2012, the lights are wrong, it looks like a 09 with a Caractere kit.

Yeah, you're right it looks different. Just did a quick google image search, SUVs aren't really my forte.

most non-car oriented Americans have a German car pecking order as far as expense or 'excess' or status
    Porsche, MB, BMW, Audi
this varies in Germany, and since Porsche is pretty much sportscars, can be eliminated when talking 4 door cars

so the S8 would be just an 'expensive' VW to most, but imho, it is better looking, better designed, more practical, as well built as the others, although not as fast as AMG or M

the one weakness is the mechanical build details, again imho (and having wrenched on them for 30 years+) no one can compete with BMW, not even Porsche

the detail/attention to, maintenance access, the quality of connectors/switches/components, the over engineered axles, diffs, etc.

but having said that, the S8 is the best looking, yet most understated of the bunch, and the quattro seals the deal

when you see an Audi, you might stop and take a second look, 'nice car'
you see a masi or aston, they are so rare in my parts, might as well be a Ferrari, and it will draw attention, wanted or unwanted

The S8 is flashy. They have huge chrome-trimmed grilles up front, a fairly noticeable ground effects package, 20" wheels, quad pipes out back and a V10 that isn't particularly quiet - my neighbor has the recently discontinued one and it's really no less flashy than an S63. Considering the size of these things, I think one is better off buying a slightly used S600 or 760Li after they've depreciated by half or more, rather than getting the specialized 'sports' version - they're too big to be sporty anyway, they're just big burbly things. The V12s have most of the power and less of the rice-y stuff.

I can see your point. I guess I'm thinking in terms of badge alone. By the way, the S8's V10 has been replaced with a twin turbo V8 for the current generation; Audi still has the W12 A8 though.

I always find it funny when my friends would fantasize about winning the lottery and being low-key millionaire by buying an S63 or an S8 or 760Li. There just isn't anything low-key about these ginormous cars. Yeah Audi is the the lowest on the list of the top 3 German carmakers but it's still a $100k car that won't fit in half of the parking spots here in Cali.

in Germany Audi may at the top of the list

an S8 is a large car by German/world standards, but not by US, SUV's are massive, so are pick-ups

the BMW 7 series are butt ugly imo, and the MB, not much better, the Audis are the best looking, and quattro is a winner
the new S8 with the V8 will be more discrete/quiet/efficient

the S6 is nice, but not as good looking as the 8

I've got a year or two to decide, no hurry

Those cars are not flashy nobody knows the difference between an s63 and an s550 or 760 and 750.

flashy to some perhaps, but in the overall scheme of things, not imo
ceramic brakes too, overkill, but super cool tech factor

I know you're an Audi homer but come on man, S63/S65 > S8 easily.

The S8 looks like an XL version of the A4.

    Audi themselves admitted it.

I heard the 5.0L BMW's have problems with the fuel line getting too hot and the new cars stalling out. I'm sure they'll fix it forthwith, just wanted to know if anyone here had a problem. Also, I've gone to non-ethanol gas and my older Benz sedan seems to like it. Expensive, but gets better milage and runs better. Thoughts?

    actually my first Audi ever
    I've owned BMW's and Porsches since 1980
    2002
    924 Turbo
    535i
    911
    735i
    944 turbo (still have it)
    e30 M3
    e36 M3
    e46 M3
    RS4

I'd take a S8 anyday over the MB, the only car I consider equal is the BMW Alpina B7 all-road, and it's fugly and over the top

I think the A4 and A6 share a look, but in my opinion the S8 is cut from different cloth

all german marques share a 'look' and size scheme
    BMW 3/5/7
    MB C/E/S
    Audi 4/6/8
