Thanks! Being in Marketing with interest in consumer behaviour, this kind of stuff fascinates me to no end.

This may be. Let's say, they go both days, every weekend but drive to work 5 x weekly. You said folks buy them only for their 4x4 potential. I would submit that if you use something 5/7ths for another purpose you bought it mainly for that purpose. Of course, no one goes off-roading every weekend, both days. The main purpose is obviously general transportation and the off-road ability is merely a secondary attribute and more something of the lifestyle they wish to project they lead. If 4x4 were the main reason they would buy something inexpensive, like an FJ, and mod it for strictly off-road use and drive a different vehicle for general use.

Additionally, most Landcruiser owners (a group you specifically mentioned), rarely if ever off road in my experience. In fact, I know several LC owners and they have never gone off road...unless you count a Sbux parking lot as "off road."

^ The way some of them park prior to their pre-prandial caffeine can be, strictly speaking, off-road. But it does them no justice.

Lovely and really fun cars! Fun with there stock motors and have great potential. I've driven one with an LS6, that's a bit scary.

I think you have the same problem, as I have from time to time, you read what you want it say and not what it's says.

Where in my single sentence did I say or imply all of that? What I wrote was "The only people who buy patrols are people, who want to use them for their 4*4 capabilities, the same pretty much goes for Landcruisers.", nowhere did it say that all Landcruiser and patrol owners only drive in the amazon etc.

(gets up to retrieve cardboard and stanley knife)

The only people who drive LWB Landcruiser around here (I don't think I have seen a LWB Patrol in years), are people who either

    1. Live in the middle of nowhere on a farm or have a holiday home some where deserted and need the 4*4 to get around on their property and up their driveway.
    2. A builder who needs to drag a 2 ton trailer on to a construction site and back out.
    3. People who need to drag a horse, cow, donkey what ever animal out some where in the middle of a field, which most cars can't.
    4. Someone needs go out in the middle of nowhere often for pleasure or work.

I think for every Landcruiser and Patrol I see, I see about 100-200 Q7, X5, ML, RR, RRS, Cayenne etc. each.

I even more rarely see SWB Patrol and Landcruisers and when I do it's with some idiot wearing ski goggles riding around in a 5 point harness and sparco seat with roll cage, chunky tires and lifted suspension, all covered in mud.

Land Cruisers are somewhat rare in America, the Lexus version isn't though. In America a LC is kind of a stealth wealth mobile, since it gets a little pricey for a Toyota-branded vehicle but it's pretty known for its quality. For those people I think it holds the place of being a 7 passenger vehicle more often than off-roader.

that thing is super clean. Shame about the US spec turn signals and bumpers though, those things are hideous. Should look like this:

these old Z cars have gotten really expensive in Japan lately, they used to be pretty cheap. Now they're all priced like Porsches.

Saw a navy FF on the street in Seoul a few days ago, and saw some at the motor show a couple months back. It's very underwhelming.

When I got back to Tokyo the other day I was sitting outside of a bar and I see this e46 convertible go by with a guy in the backseat, standing up with a DSLR - then shortly after 5 Lambos blow by in a row.

This. Also, used ones are favorites of middle aged 35k millionaires.

The FF has been out for a while now, it just takes a while for them to be built.

It was on top Gear last night, where they tested it against the new Bentley GT.

I saw the new 3 series today, looks as it does in all the pics on the net. Kinda boring looking, but the first-year non-M 4 door 3's always do...

Yah, it's been out for a while. Probably the worst looking Ferrari in their current line-up. It's like an elongated 1-series hatch. Saw the Top Gear shoe last night too, Ferrari is stupid for creating a stupid new 4-wheel drive system just so that the engine won't be raised an inch or two.

Their segment on the Fisker was interesting too, that engine is somewhat unique. I wish they went on more on how much fuel it takes in and how far the car could go after a fill-up.

It's disappointing since the E90 was nice looking. I want to see what the coupe looks like though.

Yeah it seems fairly dumb, to invent the wheel once again, so to speak, instead of using proper 4wd.

I actually like the FF, it reminds me of the old Z3M coupe and the M coupe.

Henrik Fisker knows how to design a good looking car and I agree that a little more info would have been great, but most people would give a **** about it.

The website says it has max range of 300 miles.
