It's not like you can't get an aftermarket steering wheel.

I kinda have to agree with him on this.

Your new Vette took a huge hit in value as you piled in the fake fur and wood veneers.
It should be possible to "improve" a new car interior but in practice: not really.

Vette interiors are lame but there may not be a better track day car for your dollar than the Grand Sport. The thing is, I’m not a cop and I don’t have a mustache, so I don’t think I can ever buy a vette. I’m just the wrong demographic. Happy to appreciate their performance from afar and stick to less gold chainy cars.

Sorry to hear that :( My father and I shared a similar passion for cars, and though I think I was driving a Ford Focus station wagon when mine passed, I now make it a habit to drive straight to the cemetery to see him whenever I buy a new car. He was a big Porsche guy so I know he's proud.

We call them "q-tip cars" here as there's always a white tip showing through the sunroof behind the wheel.

Sorry to hear that the you and your dad never made it to the 4th car together.
The 355 is my favorite modern Ferrari. It has a reputation for being a bit of a maintenance pig, but I think it is the last of the truly beautiful mid engine V8 Ferraris. I just don't love the looks of the 360/430.

It's simply part of the age old horsepower battle between Ferrari and Lamborghini. If an Aventador SVJ makes 759 horsepower, Ferrari has to build something to top that. More horsepower doesn't necessarily make a car a better car, a better sports car, or a better grand tourer.

There are intangible qualities that attract buyers, going far beyond horsepower numbers, lap times, or even creature comforts. I believe you yourself even mentioned in the past that there are intangible qualities that made you choose your GT3 over less expensive cars that might offer great bang for the buck. Hell, by horsepower, comfort, and performance measures on paper a 996 was a better car that the outgoing 993. However, there is the driving experience, feel, sound, and design, that result in people coveting a 993 and paying far more for it than a 996.

Many Ferrari owners I've met are or have been Porsche owners. Most will admit, their Porsche is more practical, better engineered, and better built. Still, there are intangible qualities that make driving some Ferraris enough fun to overlook its faults or quirks.

Agreed on the intangibles 100%. But I guess I don’t see why they need to come at the expense of function. I’m sure the V12 in the Superfast sounds and feels amazing, but it seems the power now exceeds what a GT-focused chassis can make use of. If not for the marketing-driven horsepower one-upmanship you allude to, maybe they would have struck a better balance and made a car that is both a better tourer and a better track car.

Also, today’s Lamborghinis are definitely making use of their horspower. Nurburgring record-setting is now an ongoing battle between Lambo and Porsche. Granted, neither the Huracan nor Aventador functions well as a GT car, but that returns us to the original point.

Before manufacturers figured out how to make a compact hub that still fit an airbag, yes.

Current steering wheel on my car:
