A) Lights can be changed

B) 500E isn't a coupe

Always liked the W124 coupe, but I prefer the facelift version and you can cheapen the looks of those era MBs really easily, back then and now. It's kinda of sad to see how dated looking the old SEC coupes are now (the big MB coupes seem to age the quickest), though they are kind of the same era as the W124.. This one is particularly nice because it's a full AMG Hammer SEC, 6L with the 4 valve Hammerhead engine, power Recaros, everything. You can tell by looking at the side profile how badass this car must've been at the time: http://ucar.autos.yahoo.co.jp/detail...rade=0&photo=5

^^^I still get giddy when I see one of the 80s SEC coupes on the highway. I love those cars. I like the modern ones, too.

I've changed cell phones 5 times since, but a year ago I saw and took a pic of a really clean (must've been imported from Japan, seeing how it was set up and so clean) dark teal 560SEC fully decked out in AMG stuff, with the old P-zeros on the 3-piece AMG's, original clear Euro-spec blinkers, it was sight to see.

Well, kids, they don't build MBs the way they used to.
MB-Tex ficken seats, undertaker's office interiors, cheap plastics that smell like an industrial incinerator, egg white-like clearcoat, ****** sound systems and on and on.
You want to get 4-door MB built to once famous MB standards ? Expect to step up $$$$$$ to an S-Class.

I've owned 3 500E's and vouch for their awesomeness. Though to be honest, they feel like antiques compared to modern E55, and E63 cars. Still, in their day, they were the ****, and remain fantastic pieces of crazy German HP junkie engineering. Probably the last MB/Porsche collaboration of any kind.

There's a guy that does stunning conversions on these cars - Statish Tummala.
He's done an MB32V W129 v8 to 560SEC conversion
An amazing MB v12 to 560SEC conversion
A gorgeous MB 32V W129 v8 to E320 coupe conversion

Probably more - here's some of it

I remember a few years back I was driving on the highway in the company truck at night and a white 560SEC with full AMG package blew right past me...it was pretty bad-ass...

The 500E's are a rare sight these days as well...

^buddy's is very impressive for a 20 year old car

runs out of steam above 120 though whereas the m3 pulls until pegged at 167 in 5th

gotta love m powerbands and gear ratios

The quality of paint, leather, seat padding on those 1980-s Mercedes coupes and sedans warranted giving up your left nut for.

One of my profs had an '89 560SEL. I was a back seat passenger to a conference a few hundred miles away, and boy what a great experience that was.
