Owner is firm on price and won't go below 18k. Good maintenance history. Brakes all recently replaced. New PSSs all around.

Only thing that bothers me maintenance wise is that the clutch has never been replaced and it's at 80k miles. He says there's no slippage...yet.

He won't go below 18. Might be able to get him to 17.5 if a PPI catches anything.

Saw a very nice looking M4 last night parked outside of the place we had dinner at last night. The plate read, "M Four," and I immediately pictured GF driving it.

@HRoi any concerns about getting a PPI at a BMW dealership?

The owner says there's one right around the corner and the indie mechanic I trust is 30-40 mins away from him unfortunately.

$250 for a full diagnostic test including hooking the car's ECU up.

I might just offer the owner $100 for the hassle on top of the PPI cost to take it to my guy instead..

Edit: I stalked the guy on m3forum.net and found out he paid $16k for the car a year ago. He's now selling for $18.5k. Granted, he put on OEM ZCP wheels and replaced the brakes this spring.. but now I don't feel as amenable to paying $18. Is it a dick move to be like, "yo, I saw you paid $16. I'll offer you $17?"

It's obvious he's trying to recoup his "mods" and maintenance costs.

Why would it be a dick move, and even if it is, who cares? If he doesn't want to sell, he won't.

I pulled some maintenance history from the dealership and got this. Not sure if any of the 'unpleasant' noises got fixed or not

I had offered 14, but I'm a dick

This. You can always come up in your offer but never go down. Make sure to let any offer sit for a day or two also to give him a chance to break.

BMW dealership PPI is ok but I find PPI's are always best done by these obsessive indy specialists that don't seem to be hard to find. Isn't Turner Motorsport somewhere up there?

$18k is an ok price for a cream puff. Tbh I'm not obsessive about getting the best possible price for a used car if it's the perfect one. For new cars, it's a different story as i always treat it as a fun little game with the dealers

Do you think the car looks good maintenance wise?

Appearance wise it's my favorite color on the e46.

I loled at all the unpleasant noises. I don't know if I'm reading this right but it looks incomplete - there should be pages and pages of history on a well maintained 12 year old car

Are you gonna go see the car? I'm curious if they fixed the moonroof (goddamn thing is a pita on e46's), and someone hopefully replaced the RSM's. Other than that the e46 interior gets this really irritating sticky residue as it ages (hopefully he's replaced any of those parts).

Edit: I missed that each entry had a date on it. So there are huge chunks of service life with no records...
