By the way, just in case anyone thought about asking. I decided to change my profile picture until I lose 30 lbs.

Pros and cons on York vs Silver sole? Is the exposed waist of any consequence with regard to durability? What about in the rain?

Since leather soles can get wet without any big issues (assuming you're not swimming in them) the main differences would be York is going to be lighter, more flexible, and I think the look is a bit more elegant than Silver. I'd also agree with the note there saying Silver are going to be thicker. Inside the shoe, the footfeel is going to be smoother on the York because you'll probably be able to feel the big silver studs. Durability wise I wouldn't expect a huge difference-- silver may last longer but will look more worn in the end.

When did they rename Dainite to Silver? Always wondered how they got away with using another brand's name for their version of it. The hatch grain shell Calway shows a pic with Victoria, but states it uses Silver in the description.

Fantastic reply, thank you. I've only tried Dainite and Silver before, so I'm curious about the York. I wanted to try it on some Norwegian stitch toe bluchers that can be used in all kinds of weather (except snow).

I’m not certain it is actually Dainite. If it is, I would guess they worked with Dainite to stamp it as Carmina. That said, my jumpers with this sole don’t feel like other Dainite shoes I have had - the Carmina version is less stiff and a little bouncier. No idea who actually makes it, but I prefer it to the Dainite I’ve had on AEs.

FWIW, I went York on both of my recent Calways.
