It's only slightly slimmer at the toe cap. Otherwise, it fits the same as the 234.

Would the new 401, then, still be roomier/wider than the Carmina Rain? I ask because when it comes to width, Carmina Rain is about as snug as I'm willing to go. Thanks.

Then you'll be pleased to hear that the Chelsea Boots is also one of the style that is being crafted on the new 401 last.

Please do. I have Sinatra in the Jumper on 234. Would love to know how 401 compares.

I am weighing up between the herring churchstow and the jumper boot as a winter boot. Primarily will be used in Nordic conditions. Should I be concerned about the toe cap on the jumper? Will water from rain and snow come through the stitching?

In terms of sizing, I wear a uk8.5 in redwings and can add an insole and wear thick socks. I also wear an 8.5 in loake long wings. Should I go for the same size, or go up to a 9?

Our experience would suggest otherwise. We have customers who had bought the old double monk strap in the 234 and then ordered the same size in the 401 but found it too narrow - we swapped it for the next half size up and this worked well. If the Carmina Rain is about as snug as you would want to go I would probably have advised you try the next half size up on the 401. Of course, everyone is different, but we have been advising on this basis since and have not encountered any difficulties.

I am considering these two boots as well. Would love to have opinions on the Jumper and the Churchstow from anyone who has either.
