Hey, so I'm looking into picking up a new pair and considering some CS options. Are all of the boots crust leathers? I'm a little concerned that they won't hold up as well as something completely dyed through.

I have about 20 pairs of CS boots (most crust indeed) and they have held up well. Some have been abused in the snow and are still looking good. The only time one went FUBAR is when I spilled a drop of gasoline on one boot during fueling up my car. Had to send them back to CS for a re-dye job.

That makes me feel a lot better. I found a great deal on some that I love. Frankly, I'm probably overthinking it. My boots used to see some pretty heavy use/harsh chemicals when I was in management for a wheel and tire company. I'm in an office all day now. I've avoided crust over the years but I think I'm going to pull the trigger on these

I am looking for a pair of dark brown oxfords and the comtenders are the CS Harold and yanko 915 models. Does anyone have experience with both these brands and how they compare quality wise?

Is there any chance there will be a MTO in the future where you can also specify the type of leather used? For instance a suede or grained shaft with a smooth leather bottom part of the boots? An unlined shaft option would also be great.

Not all the leathers are crust. It’s up to the retailer to make the make up as they wish. I’ve been using patina shoes from multiple manufacturers for years without issues anyways.

Especially @ 7 minutes where a synthetic interlining is shown. Wonder if this is standard on all CS shoes/boots.

Anyone else have squeaking in the shoe when walking? I have had it from day one, finally decided to bring it to a cobbler. He fixed the heel but still no change in the squeaking.

I had the same issue in a pair of unlined Carlos Santos shoes. I soaked them in my sink and the squeaking is gone now.

Usually things like these are reinforcement especially for the seams, also if you use a little thinner leather such as crust. I haven't cut a handgrade or non patina shoe to know though.

Had to ask, in some cases leather soles can squeak too, though that could mean the shank is displaced.

More often than not there's some air bubble somewhere. If you changed the heel, it would probably need a replacement if you want to eliminate it. I had one stop after some use, other used some conditioner. It's a thing that can happen with rubber soles.
