Should use cream and/or polish before wearing my new shoes for the first time?

I always use both before wearing for the first time. You have no idea how long they have been sitting in that box before getting to you. I like to put a thin layer of cream (my favorite is John Lobb brand), and then follow up with a few thin layers of wax (my fav is Weston - beeswax).

Def use at least a thin coat of wax, if for nothing else to help protect the finish from scuffs, it will act as a buff barrier to contact and help to preserve the original look...it also will help to protect from any weather elements.
