Care for wool pants?

So I took the plunge and bought a pair of Zegna wool pants for my work -- I loved the fit.

What's the best way to get day-to-day wrinkles out? I realize anything (steam, iron, press) will damage the fabric somewhat, so I guess I'm looking for something that's pretty quick and easy, yet does a good job of preserving fabric quality.

Steaming, ironing, or pressing your pants will not do that much damage. There really isn't any other options for getting out wrinkles. Try to dry clean the pants at least 2-3 times a year.

The best way is to properly hang them on a hanger for pants, by clipping the bottom hem of the pants to the hanger so that the pants hang straight down. Any wrinkles will work themselves out in a day of just hanging.

I got tired of my wool trousers coming back from the dry cleaners with that pissy chemical smell. So now I wash them on the delicate cycle in cold water, hang them to dry then take them to the cleaners to get them pressed. Much cheaper and cleaner than drying and they are as good as new.

I let soak in cold water with some liquid laundry detergent (Tide) for an hour.
Drain water. Roll pants and gently squeeze out excess water.
Rinse in clean cold water. Drain. Roll. Squeeze out water. Repeat 2nd rinse.
Hang dry, then iron on 'wool' setting, giving ocassional misting of water as I iron.
I wash after 5-7 wearings.

And use a pressing cloth to help prevent the fabric from developing a sheen.

Thanks everyone for the tips -- I guess what I meant to say that was I'm for any of the methods I mentioned, really, since there's no "perfect" way to do something. Again, thanks for the great feedback.

+1. Do not put a hot iron directly on your pants. Spoken as one who also cares for wool pants.
