Are they in style? If so, what does one wear under one? Does it have to be a collard shirt & tie?

Collared sport shirt without tie, or collared dress shirt with tie. I've seen people wear t-shirts under them as well, often t-shirts with horizontal stripes.

I wear them a lot in the winter and in the climate controlled lab I work in. You can wear a shirt and tie or no tie and you can just wear a t-shirt. There is no set rule for them. You can decide how you like them best.

Wear them as you would a casual jacket, in the same ways.

I don't know if they are in style. Don't really care. But for me, when going casual / sport is my to-go default look. I normally wear them as suggested above by Boswell: dress shirt + tie.

They're in. Casual, while retaining a dressy vibe at the same time (Think Mr. Rogers. Bad ass, right?). Wear with t shirt, or collared shirts.

Wear under a sport jacket or your winter jacket for an extra layer when it's cold.

What Will says. Ithink it depends how u wear it. in grey with a pair of cords, country brogues and a portly figure they incorrigibly old man [IMG] . but well-fitted in darker colors they can rock I like the convenience and comfort and often wear a charcoal shawl collar at work.

Assuming this means that you wouldn't button the bottom button. True?

    yeah looks better unbuttoned
    Try this look:

-navy or slate shawl lapel cardigan
    -white dress shirt
    -khaki pants
    -brown suede chukka boots
