car coat or bomber for casual coat

I am going to buy what I hope will be my last winter casual coat. either a shearling/bomber type lined leather coat, or a loden wool car coat. I have 3 nice overcoats and a trench coat, for more formal/business wear. I will get a fall coat aside from this. this will be for chicago winters, for when I am not wearing a suit - for driving the kids around, working from home, going to the gym, that kind of thing.

a while back I asked about casual clothes and there was a big push against wearing leather jackets for middle aged me. I am 45.

what are your thoughts?
