Car Coat Length With Suit Jackets

I have a longer trench coat that I am looking to replace.

I am a 39L, and my suit jackets are about 32" in length. The car coat I am looking at is 37" in length. I am just wondering if this might be too short and look odd with suit jackets? I normally wear sport coats or suits, and am concerned this car coat would be too short. Thank you.

Welcome to Styleforum. It is a matter of preference. If the coat safely covers the suit or sport jacket length, it's long enough. Half way down the thigh should be about right. Check to be sure the length (and width) of the coat is proportionate to your build and height as well for best fit. Perhaps if you can upload a photo of you in your current trench, we can make suggestions for length best suited to your frame. Crop off the head in the shot if you prefer anonymity.

I cannot post a pic, but my current trench is a 40L, and it is the traditional length of past my knee.

This one I am looking at would be 4-5 inches longer than my suit jackets, and probably close to halfway down my thigh.

Since I am used to wearing the longer style, I am a bit apprehensive of making this move. Just hoping for some comments to sway me either way! Thanks again.

The length sounds fine. I do think you need to make sure that the car coat does not look too casual to be paired with a suit. That is a judgement call, but go with your gut feeling.

Will you be buying the size Medium since you are a 39? If so, they have a size Medium Tall which should be longer.

Yes the medium tall, but it is only 37 inches length. So will only be 4-5 inches longer than my suit jackets. A little concerned again since I am used to the full length...
