Just spent a week end in Montreal. The two dept stores I saw there were Holt Renfrew and Ogilvy

Holt Renfrew is the only one I can think of. The flagship store is on Bloor St in Toronto. The men's section is not so large, but you can walk down the street to Harry Rosen for that.
Are you thinking of visiting?

Holt Renfrew

or Holts eh?

The one in Toronto is the biggest one i know of. If you are there, I know that like Niemans, Holts has outlet somewhere in the toronto burbs.

As mentioned, Holt Renfrew is the only high-end department style store in Canada (however, they really only focus on clothes and make-up). Harry Rosen is a large high-end retailer specifically targeted to men. In their heydey both Hudson's Bay and Eatons department stores offered very high-end selections (I think the Bay downtown still has a fur department). If you go to some of their older stores in city centres where the building hasn't been renovated you can still see evidence of where the high end stuff used to be.

There is no Holt Renfrew outlet in the Toronto suburbs. It is in Calgary Alberta.

Harry Rosen is the best for menswear, and they do have an outlet in the Toronto suburb of Etobicoke.

In Montreal, you have both Holt and Ogilvy (the latter has one of North America's only Aquascutum men's boutiques.)

There is a Holts outlet in the Toronto area (off Steeles, close to York University). The Harry Rosen outlet is in Mississauga (off the 401 and Highway 10). Both are hit and miss although I find the Harry Rosen outlet to be better.

Winners just opened a store on Bloor not long ago, right between Holt & Harry Rosen.

Neiman Marcus used to own Holt Renfrew and they accepted each other's credit cards. HR retains the right to use "Last Call", a remnant from NM days, to designate its outlet clearance stores.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
