Hey gents,

I generally stick to lurking 'round here, trying to learn a few things. I'm heading to New York for the first time next weekend, and I'd love some recommendations for stores to check out from locals. Mainly (but not exclusively) looking for classic shoes, trousers and ties. If you know of any unique shops, I'd appreciate it.

Something to keep in mind - I work in journalism. Not looking for the highest-end stuff, but willing to spend more for quality items. But, yes, I do essentially work for ham sandwiches.

Thanks in advance.

Crockett and Jones. They are on 56th between 5th and 6th. (I copied that from another thread, Enjoy NYC :) )

Charles Tyrwhitt may be closer to your price range than some other brands/stores mentioned here. Also, Allen Edmonds for shoes.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
