For some reason, Swedish TV4 is showing crap movies from the 80's every afternoon right now, and the other day, that one was on. I actually saw a bit, and it was very crappy indeed. I really enjoyed the "dumb-guy-learns-how-to-dance-in-5-minutes" montage, though.

    "We need a montage!"

This is kind of old, but I laugh everytime I see it:

I can do basic moves and I have a good time with it so I do it often. Nothing fancy but the girls I hang out with love dancing so I like to do it when we go out.

The longer I dance, the closer to miming it gets. I do:

    eating a bowl of oatmeal
    the sprinkler
    the manual gear shift
    the horse ride
    the motorcycle
the lost in a fog---aka Velma groping for her eyeglasses
the "land ho" complete with telescope and pointing finger
    the windmill
the angry gorilla punching the floor
the lonely native in a canoe
the deflating Snoopy balloon at the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade
and the rusty robot AKA the Tin Man

I prefer the closely related, but infinitely more pretentious version (you know, for hipsters!): the "Johnny Depp in Dead Man floating away in a canoe" Also, @ Quirk: LMAO. I love that scene so much.

Yes and Yes. If by "dancing" you mean rubbing up against the gyrating backsides of limber, inebriated members of the opposite sex.

If not, then No and Yes.

I want to learn. when I get out on the dancefloor now and do my thing, people gather around in a circle and watch...and not in a good way.
It's more of that recoiled horror your girlfriend gets when she sees a cockroach on the floor.

I'd recommend learning. I was basically like you (and most white guys that are scared of dancing) but I started salsa lessons a couple of weeks ago and am having a really good time with it. I decided it was time to get over myself. I'm a pretty serious guy most of the time and so something like salsa is a real leap for me. I always used to feel completely awkward on the dance floor unless I was well on my way to tipsy, and even then I never really enjoyed myself b/c I was so self-conscious about how bad I was. You get over it though, and surprisingly fast, especially if you have a cute instructor.

I went out to a couple salsa clubs last night to practice and even though Sundays apparently bring out the best dancers, nobody really cares if you're horrible. Nobody there learned over night so they don't point and laugh. To tell you the truth, once you actually start dancing the crowd around you fades out and you forget about it.

And I won't even get started on the women there... Incredibly fit bodies and some of them can dance like you wouldn't believe.

I love it when women dance in long skirts. The twirling is mesmerizing.
