Can the rise of suit trousers be increased?

When a pair of suit trousers are worn, and I bend, a weggie occurs. It is not dramatic but enough to fix.

I have been told locally that the problem is the rise.

The pants have not yet been hemmed. So a local tailor suggested taking a piece of pant cloth, after hemming, and add it to the seam in the crotch area to lengthen the rise. No more than an inch to inch and a half was suggested.

Does this sound like a reasonable solution?

The trousers will then look a little different in the crotch area. But I assume this will not be visible while being worn. Would that bother you?

Thanks for your thoughts.

This sounds like a really bad idea. Cut your losses and get another suit. Or at least try it on a pair of odd pants first.

Why do you ever have to bend?

Normally, no one would see my crotch area, except when I 'm sitting down (if not under a table). I suppose if the fix wasn't drawing attention to the eye then I might be game but unfortunately, you're going to have to have the work done to evaluate whether that is true or not.

If it actually showed while standing, say from the underside of the rear - like those ridiculous reinforced looking seats on some Cuccinelli pants - call me sensitive, but I couldn't do it.

Technically, I don't think a suit the trouser rise can be "increased," but adding a piece of fabric in the crotch (my tailor refers to it as a vienna crotch?) will give you more room and probably solve this issue. I have had this done to some of my pants before and if done well/correctly will/should not be noticeable at all (but for the added comfort/room) unless you are spread eagle and pointing it out to someone.

hahaha YOu have discovered my secret! I only occasionally have to have this done and I have purged most of my old stuff with this particular alteration, but it is actually a decent solution to the systematic problem of the low rise trouser trend. If done by a good tailor it's virtually unnoticeable. I am actually experimenting with the world of custom trousers and have gone with near an 11" rise. Interested to see how they turn out.

My problem with rise as well, I need a minimum of 11" rise and most of RTW suits don't have that. I have never done a major surgery on increasing or decreasing the rise though,I was told that it is not worth it.

Rather than resorting to what seem to be questionable alterations, why not either try another make if you have to use |RTW or better go to a small tailor locally who can do MTM at a smaller price?

Who told you surgery is not worth it, your tailor or surgeon?
