As others have indicated, any competent lawyer would want to see the underlying lease. The general rule is that a lease is a contract and that contract terms may not be unilaterally modified. That said, some leases and some local laws do permit the kind of changes to which the OP refers.

However, keep in minds that legal advice received over the internet from people who may not be lawyers and who have not had the opportunity to review the original lease and any amendments thereto is just about the best advice you could hope to get when you have a legal problem.

It sounds like he unilaterally changed the terms of the lease. He has no more right to do that than you do.

Pay what you're owed, according to your lease contract. Why would you let this guy douche up on you?

why not just pay what you owe him and be done with it? is he going to come after you for the extra beyond what your contract states? probably not worth his time either.
