Can I wash a flannel polishing cloth for shoes?

Can they be washed in the washing machine after they're all covered in polish and dirt and grime or would it be better to buy a new one rather than reusing a washed one?

Thanks.

If its real polish then I would have thought washing wouldn't do anything. Polish is waterproof and I don't know how good detergents are at breaking it down' it might be like putting candles in your washing-machine.

Actually, how you used it? to apply polish or to polish?
Anyway, I wash my polish cloth, and they are fine, and getting better after wash. However, I wash it by hand with HOT water and soap.

Of course you can wash it.

But.......do not wash it together with your best shirts. Use a separate machine load (with other cleaning rags).

The more you wash it, the softer it becomes and the better for the task in hand.

Why not go to a thrift store and buy some old flannel shirts to use as polishing rags?

+1

They don't go near my washing machine... I put them in a bucket w/ some very hot water and soap. Let them soak for a little while (15min or longer), then give them a quick washing, a rinse, and hang to dry.

I've never bothered washing a cloth (just ditched them once they was really beyond and got a new one; "yellow dusters" are dead cheap and work fine), but I guess there's no reason not to. I wouldn't stick them in a washing machine though because if anything stays stuck in the drum, it might affect the next load.

Eduard Meier recommends to wash them and as fishball said, they're getting better...

you don't need to wash them very often, btw
