In all seriousness though, why have you kept the plastic on the nob of the shoe trees?

Just dip them in some renovateur and on the third day they will rise again.

at this point after the ridicule, laziness. the plastic has not been detrimental to my use of the trees so it's whatever!

I should have specifically asked if I should ask to have the finish taken off or get a new shoe.

Also, neutral wax isn't a very good choice. I'd go with AE paste or a cream from one of the better suppliers.

If you go to the AE website and select the Strand, under the Shoe Care tab it specifically states:

"CARING FOR BURNISHED CALFSKIN
To remove the slight haze you may notice with a new pair of burnished calfskin shoes, wipe them with a soft cloth or brush with a horsehair shine brush. Clean regularly with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry. Then apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Premium Polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a cotton flannel cloth (emphasis added) . . . "
