Can I extract DVD soundtracks into CD or MP3?

I have many opera and ballet DVDs that I'd like to just listen to the soundtracks while driving or using computers. The performances were recorded live with audience reactions and all which I love, there're no corresponding CDs published for all those DVD titles.

So how can I extract the soundtracks into CD or MP3? Any softwares?

SHould be rather simple actually; use a combination of CDex, DVDDecrypter and (maybe) DVDShrink...

I've done this before - I don't remember if I used Audacity or GoldWave, but it was very simple.

Thanks for the tips, I'll Google them. I can backup the whole DVD but my software doesn't have an option to separate the soundtracks. Are all DVDs with 5.1 channels also come with the 2-channels stereo? I guess I only need to back up the 2-channel sound tracks for CD or MP3 playing purposes?

why not save yourself the trouble and just download off the net? I'm sure someone's got what you're looking for.

Does breaking the law mean anything?

He already owns it. Downloading would just save him the hassle of ripping it.
