A question that his plaguing me for at least a good five minutes:

Is 'OK' to wear brown shoes when you also have on a black shirt/sweater?  Example:  tan khakis, black sweater - which shoes?

I'd probably go with cordovan, if that's an option, but any shade of 'brown' would certainly be better than black with khakis, regardless of the sweater.

In fact I can't imagine ANY color of chinos -- tan, khaki, olive, white... even black, frankly -- for which a black shoe would trump something in the cordovan or brown families.

But I'm eager to be persuaded otherwise...

It might be a fashion mistake to some but I would wear a heavy black brogue. At times I like the contrast that black offers with chinos.

OK, let me take it a step further: black turtleneck with casual pants. Does that change things?

    Thanks.
