Can a tall guy use a standard length tie?

I'm 6 5 as well and I only use ties with regular length. Sure a windsor can sometimes be tough to pull of but I usually go with a half windsor or a four in hand. Lucky me for having tall legs and a rather short torso.

I'd be careful. A lot of big guys tie the knot way down the shorter end of the tie and it's obvious, plus, unless that back end stays tucked in the shirt, that does not look good either.

Unless you are really clever, the too short ties are hard for a big guy to tie and have them look good.

I'm 6'8" and can't wear anything other than an extra long. A lot of extra longs are still too short.

XXL ties are available on EBay and from at least one on-line retailer: http://www.bigshotneckwear.com/

While being fine ties, they lack the refinement of Mr. Hober's highly, esteemed work.

I'm in the same situation...I've found some on ebay, some at CasualXL...

http://www.statture.com/

Found those two sites but haven't ordered from them yet...next time I'm in Chicago, I'm gonna stop by to check out quality before I order...

Hope this helps.

I guess it depends on your torso length. I'm 6'8" as well, and I can usually manage with standard length ties, hit the buckle, and still put the small end through the loop.

Yes I have a very long torso (at 6'8" my inseam is only 36"). Frustrating thing is at my last job I was in a suit every day.
