Can a striped regimental tie be worn with plain white shirt and navy pinstripe suit?

Rule of thumb is that when wearing two patterns of the same type, keep the size or scale of the patterns different. If the suit stripes are notably wider or narrower than the stripe of the tie, you should be okay.

If the patterns are too close. you will know it. Hurts your eyes.
