I have a MTM suit with un-even gorges. One is a bit higher than the other, and the notch opening is a bit more obtuse. The difference is slight - I am the only person that has ever noticed it w/o prompt. It still bothers me a bit, though, and I can't send it back to the maker b/c the suit is 1.5 years old and I just now noticed it. Can a really good alterations tailor fix my problem?

Shiny wool, glove finger alterations, uneven gorges. . . your poasts are entertaining.

I'm sure it can be done by letting out or taking in from the lower end of the collar.

I can't answer the main question but I do think it still warrants a fix- often times people say they never noticed something on your clothing until you prompted them, but that still doesn't rule out that they subconsciously noticed something 'off' about your appearance. Often a bunch of little inconsequential things like this, when put together, can make a fairly strong impression that your jacket looks wrong.

as far as i understand a gorge can be taken down - by taking some cloth away are recutting the collar - but not up.

NYTHING can be done, provided the following criteria are met:

-enough fabric (jacket)
-enough money (yours)
-competent tailor (good luck)

I'm not worried about the tailor. If we deem that this is indeed possible I'll go to Will Field in Georgetown. He's universally regarded as one of the best tailors in the region and was trained by his father, who came up on the Row.

Wouldn't it be better to ask Mr. Field? I'm sure he knows more about his capabilities and the garmet, which he will see, than a bunch of blowhards on the intertubes.

Certainly. I just figured I'd inquire to see if some SFer has perhaps had a similar alteration done. Field is a bit out of the way and I figured I's save myself the trip if this was a pipe dream...

Do you have photos to illustrate your issue and your objective?
