Can a 30-year-old pull of a DB suit?

I am thirty, but look a bit younger. I am an attorney in a suburb but go to San Francisco on average four times per week. I am considering ordering a DB suit in a JJ Minnis # 340 which is a air force blue flannel. I am concerned that it might look a little ostentatious, or that it just won't look right on someone my age. On any given day, there are only a few people in the courthouse wearing a double breasted, and most are septuagenarians. Andy advice would be much appreciated.

I will run contrary to all the other advice you will receive and say "Be careful." Some folks will consider it costumey, and if you look young, as you say, they may not take you seriously. A DB points up your relatively tender years, and this might be an issue if you're attempting to attract clients. I have to admit, I would think twice about hiring a youthful-looking lawyer who was wearing a DB. I want someone with experience, and I don't need a judge or jury distracted by what my lawyer is wearing. On a young guy, or on a guy that just looks really young, that DB better fit perfectly, and you better have some impressive bona fides.

A DB is sort of like a bowtie, in that it's easy to wear if you're confident, well built and handsome, not so easy if you're skinny, gawky, babyfaced, or shy.

If you are, in fact, confident, well built and handsome, or you can afford to not care how others react, dress however you like.

I'd worry about that shade of blue (although I like it) in a DB as a lawyer. If you want to rock a DB, keep it as conservative as possible - charcoal or navy herringbone.

Also the fact that you're asking means you're probably going to be self-conscious about wearing it.

It´s not about the age, but the fit...if it´s too loose, you´ll look like a dumbass. If it looks like you´re not sure wether you should wear it or not, you´ll look like a dumbass, again.

It needs a good tailor and self-confidence. If you´re lacking one of the two, don´t go for it.

I'm mid 30s and just bought two DB suits, one navy herringbone, the other navy with a pencil stripe. Both have very strongly shaped sides, so they don't look boxy. Structure in the sides and high armholes make a DB look good even on younger people. I do have a receeding hairline, though so I'm not in the babyfaced category.
