Dear Style Forum,
First, let me express my gratitude to the forum. Style Forum members have already helped me tremendously to pick out a suit and shoes. Now I ask for your assistance in getting my brother suited.
He purchased matching Calvin Klein Separates line jacket and slacks. The jacket and pants together retail at $525.00 (major ripoff). He bought them at the Calvin Klein retail store for 40% off, but I don't feel the quality matches the price even at $325. The jacket is missing all hallmarks of a quality jacket - appears fused, non-functioning buttons on cuffs, material feels cheap, and no hand finishing, etc. The pants are not lined. Please let me know if I am wrong about the quality.
There are two reason that he bought this suit. First, $325 represents the absolute peak of his budget. Second, he has a thin frame but lots of muscle. His chest (measured by me) is 40.50 inches. His shoulders, measuring around his arms as they hung at his sides, measured 46.25 inches around. His waist is 32 inches and his inseam is 32 inches. The Calvin Klein jacket has a nice V shape that fit better than nearly all of the suits that he has tried. He purchased the jacket in 40R and the pants in 32x32. The jackets stretches a tiny bit across his back and barely pulls at the chest; the pants fit well.
For perspective, Hickey Freeman and Brooks Brothers jackets in 41R both fit him reasonably well in the shoulders and back, but need to be suppressed at the waist, are out of his price range, and had too big of a drop. Hugo Boss in 40R seemed to fit reasonably well but the pants would need to be brought in to the limit to fit him around the waist and the jacket needed more waist suppression than the HF or BB.
Anyway, I am open to your knowledgeable suggestions. I have read many posts regarding the M. Valentino suits that JeffT sells and we may look into that. However, he seems satisfied with the CK and shows little interest in trolling the consignment stores. I am keeping an eye on eBay as time permits as getting him a better value is more my obsession than his.
Thank you for your help.
