I recently spilled some liquid laundry detergent on one of my girlfriends favourite pairs of leather boots. She was crushed.

I said, I can fix this. I am pretty sure I even pointed to the sky. Pulled out some neutral cream polish and went to work.

Absolutely no luck, one boot is completely stained on the beige leather side (they are two tone). Any suggestions? Is there a way or product to strip it down and repolish or something?

I am not by any means an expert.

If it is detergent, can't you just wash it in lukewarm water with saddle soap, to rinse off the detergent. Then you can condition and polish after it dries?

Might want to wait for actual experts to chime in however, not sure what detergent will do to the dye on the leather - and it isn't PH balanced like Saddle Soap.

A nearby cobbler told me to use rubbing alcohol.

Sorry for the size but I couldn't upload the larger pic.

Try rubbing lexol into it first. It isn't harsh on leather and does act as a solvent. Then polish.

Did you apply polish without getting rid of the detergent? Cuz that'd be ::facepalm

I tried using water to get the soap off but it didn't lather. Let me try the lexol and see if that works. Then I will clean it up with a neutral polish.

Thanks all.

just spill detergent on the rest of the boots to even out the discoloration.

Break out the Visa son. You will probably have to buy her a new pair of boots.

How did you know I had a Visa?

All things considered I would rather spend the money on my shoes.

Could you please post a pic with your girlfriend wearing them?

I think that would help.

You could always dump her and tell her to shove the boots so you don't have to deal with it anymore.
