    I think of it as one of the most disappointment-proof places in the state.

    you would probably be disappointed if you tried to actually look at anything through those telescopes...

    Really? I saw Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacting Jupiter through one of those telescopes, and wasn't disappointed at all.

    Really? I saw Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 impacting Jupiter through one of those telescopes, and wasn't disappointed at all.

    Not to mention the accomplishments of the nearby Mt. Wilson observatory, from which Hubble first viewed galaxies outside our own and determined that the universe was expanding.

    The observatory is great. Nice building and views. They even have a Tesla coil.

    There was a lot less light pollution in those days.
