Yeah, they were excellent. We tried the smoked oysters, which were also quite good.

I had these in Olema. They were great though I still prefer raw. Back to OP:

I was at a small fish shop north of Point Reyes in Bodega Bay and they were selling BBQ oytsers. I thought, "well, I've never had bbq oysters, I should buy one and see what I think."

10 seconds later I realized why I had never tried bbq oysters.

California, Santa Barbara specifically, is where I first had lobster at the age of 7. It was love at first bite.

cool! technically, they're barbecued not smoked ... the smokiness comes from a dab of chipotle sauce (garlic butter too!). i'm philosophically opposed to cooked oysters, but i make exceptions for these.

If you visit again, you have to try the uni. Apparently it's our top export in terms of dollar volume. Hungry Cat and Sakana (order the live uni, not the sushi) are two good restaurants in town to try it.

I'll be there this summer, I'll be sure to check it out. I love sea urchin; I had it for the first time at Marea in NYC on bruschetta topped with lardo.

What's a decent, i.e. reasonable, amount of time to spend exploring California?

2 weeks?

I'm starting to feel like I know Los Angeles pretty well after 21 years. I don't think it is the most tourist friendly city.
