please forgive my ignorance as i don't work in an office environment. i always thought that business formal meant that you have to dress up, and that business casual meant that you don't have to dress up, but you can if you want to. would an office manager/supervisor actually reprimand an employee for being overly dressed?

i always thought that if i worked in a business casual office i would continue to wear a suit everyday, because i want to. besides, without a tie a suit is casual.

Let me clarify: when my colleague opined that my shoes were too formal, he was merely saying it as a matter of taste, not saying it was prohibited in a business casual environment.

I don't think anyone would reprimand you for showing up in a suit at a bus/casual office. But by consistently dressing in a suit when nobody else (including the boss) does, it is entirely possible that you will be branded as (1) an uppity/snobbish non-team-player, (2) pleasantly eccentric, or (3) unpleasantly eccentric.

In my conservative law firm environment, you can wear a suit everyday and never draw a sideways glance. Not every workplace is like mine, though.

I just picked up a pair of brown Weymouth from PLal yesterday. I tried them on with a pair of jeans and thought that they look very cool with jeans. I think brown wholecuts can pull that off, but black bals will look odd with casual pants.

I would like to throw in a nomination for a pair of C&J Savile's in brown. Next to the Weymouth's, these are my favorite pair of shoes. Since this was my thread, I will hijack my own thread and throw this out there: Everyday discounted C&J handgrades from Plal or Pediwear represent the absolute best price/quality shoe ratio there is.* *excludes one-off Ebay finds and the random EG sales, etc. Discuss.

Totally on the mark about the Saviles. That or a pair of Seymours would probably be my next pick of Handgrades. Perhaps it's the monkstrap design, but the Seymours I've tried fit a little loosely compared to other handgrades, despite the same size and last. As for everyday deals, it seems that PLal cannot be beat. Though Bennies does carry Grenson Masterpieces, it seems that these are in limited quantities, sizes, models, etc.. From what I understand PLal orders continually from C&J UK and can get even special order models in shipments over 12. That on top of the fact that Handgrades are arguably the best 'value' English shoe (quality

rice wise) even at retail, makes PLal a great deal. I just wish I heard about them before the price increase... Either way, I do feel sorry for Chris once his next Grenson shipment comes in.. he's going to be one busy man. I wear my Weymouths with cords and a sports jacket and think they look great. Keep wearing them, it would be a crime to let something as beautiful as Weymouths gather dust.

Out of interest what was this guy who felt the need to pass comment on your form of dress wearing, especially his footwear?

C & J France offers some more avant-garde styles than the UK one. Some of those styles are not sold outside France. As the designer Dmitri Gomez is based in Paris, it seems likely that they test the waters there.

Well, French people may have two magazines and a site dedicated to shoes, but, unfortunately, there really are few sites where you can buy shoes on line. Besides, ebay is not very developed in France. Yes, a few cordonniers have a website, but they don't have much. Here is my little list : -Baltayan -La cordonnerie anglaise -Cordonnerie Verneau (well, only if you have time to wast...) La Cordonnerie Vaneau has no website. As you can see, the offer is very limited...for instance, it is almost impossible for you, who are located in the USA, to order Saphir polish or cream.
