I've just received the new C & J catalogue and I'm feeling very tempted. Does anyone know when (if?) their sale starts in the UK shops?

Does anyone know if the Turnbull & Asser store in NYC will have any sales as well?

When I was in T&A on Wednesday, they indicated that they were not having a Black Friday sale.

Sir,

I do seem to recall a post-festivities discount period in the mists of time.
Of whether the good people maintain this in the present day I am unqualified to comment.

Smith.

The Royal Exchange shop normally starts its sale the week after Christmas, with the Jermyn Street and Burlington Arcade shops starting their sales the following week.

Popped into the Royal Exchange shop today, was told that their sale will be starting on 18 December whereas Jermyn Street and Burlington Arcade will be starting the week after Christmas.

TKDKid, can you tell us how this sale works? Is it in the store only, or are shoes available on sale online as well?

If the sale follows the same format as in previous years, then it'll be in the shops only. However, I'm sure they'd be willing to deal with phone or email orders as well, via the Royal Exchange shop.

The sale stock is usually made up of discontinued models (regular line and Handgrade), cancelled special orders from other retailers and Handgrade seconds. You do get some cool stuff in there - I remember once seeing a pair of cordovan Handgrade split-toe derbies... Sometimes the odd regular line seconds will find their way into the sale too, at slightly higher than factory shop prices.

The three shops will each have slightly different stock, with the Jermyn Street shop having the bulk of the sale stock due to space. Having said that, the Royal Exchange shop can check what's available at the other shops for you and arrange for particular shoes to be picked up where necessary.

The Royal Exchange shop can also arrange for toe taps ("Blakeys") or embedded metal toe plates ("Berlutis") to be added to your shoes before shipping if requested.
