I received a Crockett & Jones catalouge yesterday in the mail, but the funny thing was it came in a brown Turnbull & Asser envelope. Are C&J and T&A owned by the same company?

I recieved my catalogue in a T&A envelope as well. Obviously there is some association but I have been unable to determine who exactly owns who. Interestingly the Jermyn Street Crockett & Jones Store is located next door to T&A. C&J is at #69 and T&A occupies #s 71 and 72. Also this Japanese Website calls the location "Crockett & Jones at Turnbull & Asser."

Crockett & Jones is a private company and, as far as I know, is still owned by the same family/families that founded the firm some 125 years ago. There is a connection between Turnbull & Asser and the Crockett & Jones shops (three by now) in London. At one time (although not in the latest catalogue) you were asked to make cheques (or checks) payable to Turnbull & Asser. I believe (but I don't know for certain) that T & A (a privately owned company) has a franchise for C & J shops. Maybe C & J had no interest and no expertise to venture into retail on their own. Unlike Church, which retails since the 1920s, retail doesn't seem to interest the big shoe manufacturers. Franchises are quite common these days, many stand-alone designer shops are actually not owned by the company itself, but by a franchise holder (who has provided the money, takes the risk, but also gets the profits).
