C&J Snowdons for Winnipeg winter

I am looking for a nice pair of boots that will be able to survive Winnipeg winters. The C&J Snowdons seem ideal, but I am wondering if anyone has worn them through a few harsh winters and have they lasted?

For anyone not aware, a Winnipeg street in winter is basically a mess of road salt, sand, gravel, ice and snow.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions of similar boots that are similarly priced, please let me know.

I am currently wearing this through a Toronto winter which I imagine is much the same. It's handling itself alright, but they're getting a slight salt stain at the back near the heel which I can't seem to get off with the usual vinegar and water solution. I've got an MTO Trickers on the way with a Commando Sole which I believe will do slightly better in that regard because of the thickness of the sole. The Snowdon should be alright if you're careful but some will tell you just to buy overshoes.

I'm in neighboring Saskatchewan and I've decided to just rock some nice North Face boots while outside until the weather gets back to atleast single digits below 0.

I leave my work shoes in my office and change when I arrive.

I'll be into my Alden boots with commando soles once the weather becomes more reasonable.

I'm not wearing them in this weather though.........its -40 today!

I believe gshen wore his in Norway or Finland and swore by them for winter use.

It is deeply saddening to see how many men through sheer ignorance or willfullness or both, are willing to destroy nice things rather than learn how to treat them properly. Humanity is doomed, and a lot of nice undeserving clothes will go down in the process as well. Get yourself a pair of Sorel's or equivalent for commuting during the deep winter. They are under $200 and will last you 10 winters or more. Keep 1 or 2 pair of nice shoes in your bottom desk drawer.

I have a pair of Pajar's that I use to commute to and from work, and I do change into proper shoes while I am there. The reason I want nice boots like the C&J's is to wear to places where I cannot change my shoes, like a restaurant, the mall, etc.

Also, the reason I asked if they would last through Winnipeg winters was to ensure that they will not get destroyed, so I don't understand why you would say I'm being ignorant or willful.

If they will most definitely be ruined, then I won't bother.

Salt does many bad things to shoe leather. Be sure to clean often.

Surly, I never said you specifically, were ignorant or willfull. My exact words were 'It is deeply saddening to see how many men through sheer ignorance or willfullness or both, are willing to destroy nice things rather than learn how to treat them properly.' This is a statement of fact, pure and simple. Believe it. You, personally are making an effort to learn and that is good, so please try not to be so self-concious. The best and only way to protect leather footwear from salt, is never to expose your leather to salt in the first place. There is no better way. Your words I have quoted in red provide information that you failed to provide in the originating post. Failure to provide ample information in a post can easily turn into a hay wagon of responses. The more information you you provide in your questions and inquiries, the better responses and useful information you will receive.

Man of Lint is correct. Get some proper winter boots and leave your shoes at the office.

For the instances where you can't change (going for dinner or otherwise), get some Swims.

If its not slushy out its fairly safe to wear your leather shoes but I have learned my lesson doing that way too many times!

This; I've found it's the slush (and the salt contained in the slush) that gets your boots stained more than the snow or just the salt lying around.
